Police found a motorcycle on the bank of the Turag River and officers are verifying whether it belonged to deceased Air Force (retd) Flight Lt KM Tahsif Souri.
Police Superintendent Abu Yusuf of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) confirmed the information on Friday at the PBI headquarters.
Yusuf said the River Police is investigating the case of Tahsif. The PBI is conducting a shadow investigation while providing necessary assistance to the River Police.
Like other police units, the PBI is assisting the River Police in the investigation, and officials will hand over everything recovered by the PBI to the River Police.
On Wednesday afternoon, authorities recovered the body of Tahsif from the Rajabari Ghat area of the Turag River. Tahsif’s name came into discussion in connection with the release of the video of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina who fled the country to India on 5 August 2024.
Before Tahsif went missing, CCTV camera footage captured him with an individual whom family members identified as Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dwip.
The CCTV camera footage showed Tahsif meeting the man on Tuesday night in front of a garage at the RAJUK Uttara Apartment Project in Sector 18 of Uttara, Dhaka. After shaking hands, the two men departed from the location on two separate motorcycles.
Reports indicate that Dwip is Tahsif's younger brother. The PBI took Dwip into custody on Thursday night for questioning.
Yusuf added that the two were together, and investigators are verifying the information provided by Dwip regarding the locations they visited. The PBI is cross-checking these details in the interest of the investigation.
On Thursday, physicians conducted an autopsy on Tahsif’s body at the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. Authorities then handed over the body to his family, who buried him in Uttara following his funeral prayer.
