Two teenagers accused in Apratim murder to be sent to child development center

Four accused arrested in the widely discussed murder case of schoolboy Ishiyat Shahriar Apratim (13), in Cumilla have been sent to Cumilla Central Jail. As two of them are underage, they will be sent to the Tongi Child Development Center in Gazipur. The four accused were sent to jail on Sunday night.
Mohammad Saiful Islam, SI of Sadar South Model Police Station and investigation officer in the Apratim murder case, confirmed the matter. He said, “We handed over all four to the Cumilla jail authorities. The court has allowed the two teenagers to be sent to a correctional facility. The other two accused, Tuhin (19), and Siyam (19), will remain at Cumilla Jail.”
SI Saiful said Siyam was arrested as a suspect in the case. Police said the other three accused gave confessional statements before the court and were directly involved in the murder.
At around 11 pm on Sunday, Mohammad Shah Alam Khan, senior jail superintendent of Cumilla Central Jail, said, “Police handed over four accused in the murder case to us at night. Of them, the two teenagers will be sent to the Tongi Child Development Center in Gazipur district on Monday.”
The body of Apratim, the missing son of Dr. Nahida Begum, associate professor of the Department of Bangla at Cumilla University, was recovered on Saturday afternoon from the Lalmai Sananda Hill area adjacent to the university campus. He had gone missing last Friday.
At a press conference on Sunday afternoon over the sensational incident, Cumilla Superintendent of Police Mohammad Anisuzzaman said Apratim was killed to snatch his mobile phone.
