Banned Chhatra League’s former general secretary arrested again

A court has shown Ajay Kar Khokon, former general secretary of the banned organization Chhatra League, arrested in the murder case of Md. Nazmul Mia in the Mohammadpur area of the capital.
On Monday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Jamsed Alam ordered that he be shown arrested and sent to jail. With this, he has now been shown arrested in three cases.
Later, as he was being taken out of the courtroom, Ajay Kar said, “There is no general diary or case against me in the country. Even then, one case after another is being filed against me. Even though the High Court ordered no arrest, no harassment in a writ petition, I could not save myself.”
According to case details, the investigation officer of the case and Sub Inspector Md. Akhtaruzzaman Sarker of Mohammadpur Police Station produced him before the court and applied to have him shown arrested. After the hearing, the court granted the application.
Earlier, he was arrested from the Gulshan area of the capital on the night of September 23 last year. The following day, September 24, he was sent to jail in a case filed under the Anti Terrorism Act with Gulshan Police Station. He has remained in jail since then.
According to the case statement, on August 4, 2024, in the Mohammadpur Police Station area of the capital, leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations, acting on the instructions of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, carried out a reckless armed attack to foil the Anti Discrimination Student Movement. At around 12 pm that day, near the Dhanmondi Hawkers Market, the attackers detonated crude bombs and opened indiscriminate fire on the protesters. Nazmul Mia was shot and collapsed at the scene. He was later taken to a local hospital in critical condition, where the attending physician declared him dead. A murder case was subsequently filed with Mohammadpur Police Station over the incident.
