Report on Salman Shah murder case set for November 5

The court has set November 5 as the new date for submitting the investigation report in the case filed with Ramna Model Police Station over the alleged murder of film actor Salman Shah against 11 accused including his former wife Samira Haque and villain Don. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Jewel Rana set the new date on Tuesday.
The date was previously set for submitting the investigation report. However, the investigating officer of the case and Police Inspector of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Md. Mujibur Rahman could not submit any report to the court. The court therefore set a new date for submitting the report.
Earlier on October 20, the court ordered that the unnatural death case filed over Salman Shah’s death be treated as a murder case. Following the order, a murder case was filed late that night on behalf of Salman Shah’s mother Nila Chowdhury. Her brother Mohammad Alamgir Kumkum filed the case as the complainant. Eleven people including former wife Samira Haque and villain Don were named as accused.
The other accused in the case are Samira Haque’s mother Latifa Haque Luchi, businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai, Latifa Haque Lucy, villain Don, Debit, Javed, Faruk, Rubi, A. Chattar, Saju and Rezvi Ahmed alias Farhad. Don is the only accused who has been arrested. On August 27, the court granted him five days of remand for questioning. After the remand ended, he was sent to jail on September 9. He is currently in jail.
On September 6, 1996, the body of film actor Salman Shah was recovered from his residence in Eskaton in the capital. At that time, his father, Komruddin Ahmed Chowdhury, initially filed an unnatural death case. Later on, July 24, 1997, an application was filed seeking to convert the case into a murder case. The court directed the CID to investigate the matter.
After completing the investigation, the CID submitted a final report to the court on November 3, 1997. The report described the incident as suicide. Later on, November 25 that year, the Dhaka CMM Court accepted the final report. However, Komruddin Ahmed Chowdhury filed a revision case rejecting the report.
Later on, May 19, 2003, the court sent the case for a judicial investigation. After 11 years, Metropolitan Magistrate Imdadul Haque submitted the judicial investigation report to the court on August 3, 2014.
The report also described Salman Shah’s death as an unnatural death. After the death of Komruddin Ahmed Chowdhury, his son was included as the complainant in the murder case and his mother Nila Chowdhury was made the complainant. On February 10, 2015, she filed a petition of no confidence against the judicial investigation report with the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
Most recently, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) investigated the case. On October 31, 2021, the court accepted the report and disposed of the case. On June 12, 2022, a revision case was filed against the order with the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court.
