Former army officer Golam Mohiuddin granted bail in New Gini Properties vandalism case

A court has granted bail to former army officer Golam Mohiuddin Chowdhury in a case filed over vandalism, looting and theft at a New Gini Properties Limited housing project in the ECB area of Dhaka.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junaid granted him bail on Sunday after a hearing, against a Tk 2,000 bond. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) prosecution department confirmed the information Monday.
According to court sources, Mohiuddin was produced before the court Sunday after completing a three-day remand. The case’s investigating officer, Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Zehad Hossain, had sought an order to keep him in jail.
Representing the accused, Dhaka Bar Association General Secretary Advocate Mohammad Abul Kalam Khan sought bail. After hearing both sides, the court granted bail until the next scheduled hearing on October 28.
Mohiuddin was arrested at around 2:45 p.m. on September 30 from a residence in Segunbagicha under Ramna Police Station. The following day, on October 1, the court granted police a three-day remand.
On the night of September 26, an attack, vandalism and gunfire took place at the New Gini Properties housing project. The studio of content creator Salman Muqtadir, known as “Brownfish,” located inside the project, was also vandalized and looted.
Saiful Islam Bhuiyan, director of the New Gini housing project, filed the case the following day at Cantonment Police Station.
