Police seek 7-day remand for two former army officers on 5 grounds

The two accused were brought to court on Monday evening.
An application has been filed seeking 7 days of remand for Lieutenant (retd.) Kazi Gulshan Ara and Colonel (retd.) Debashish Kumar Barua, who were arrested in a treason and anti-terrorism case lodged with Pallabi Police Station, in the capital.
On Monday, Inspector Sheikh Bashir Ahmed of the Police Detective Branch (DB) filed the remand application citing five reasons. The hearing on the matter will be held in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Didarul Alam.
The five reasons stated are: To know the names, addresses, and locations of accomplice defendants; to identify domestic and foreign patrons engaged in treasonous activities; to find mechanical digital evidence involved in the incident; to learn whether the defendants operate any other anti-state websites or pages; and the need for remand to uncover the main mystery of the case and prevent the implementation of anti-state plans.
The remand application further said that the defendants, while staying at their own homes, are involved with anti-government WhatsApp groups named Bangladesh Awami League Supporters Alfa and BBM Transparency, collecting funds and creating violent provocative digital content and spreading it on various social platforms.
In addition, through the Unity Care and Public Parliament platform, formed with retired army officers, the defendants are in contact with former army chief (retd.) General Aziz, former home minister, and fugitive top leaders, and are involved in the rehabilitation of Awami League and anti-state organized criminal conspiracy. They are trying to destabilize the country by creating content capable of inciting violence and instability through pages named "Kala Azka" and "Com," and are propagating and conducting anti-state activities using Facebook IDs.
It was further mentioned that Kazi Gulshan Ara, on the eve of the November 27, 2024 election, went to Ganabhaban with more than one and a half hundred retired army officers and openly expressed solidarity with and loyalty to then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Later, she established a committee named "Sena Parishad" with 101 accomplice defendants. The work of this organization is to spread hatred among various classes and groups of the country, create riots and unrest, and create hatred by expressing contempt and disrespect toward the government by participating in various festivals.
