The International Crimes Tribunal has shown dismissed army officer Ziaul Ahsan arrested in a crime against humanity case over the abduction of BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed during the rule of the Awami League, whose activities are currently banned.

The International Crimes Tribunal 1 led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder passed the order today, Thursday, following a prosecution petition.

The tribunal has set October 27 as the date for submitting the investigation report in the case. Prosecutors Gazi MH Tamim, Shaikh Mahdi and Tasmirul Islam appeared for the prosecution during the hearing.

Salahuddin Ahmed’s wife Hasina Ahmed alleged at the time that he was picked up from a house in the capital’s Uttara on the night of March 10, 2015. He was serving as the BNP spokesperson at the time. On May 11 of the same year, local police rescued him in Shillong, Meghalaya, India.

Indian police said at the time that Salahuddin was detained after local residents called police when they found him wandering around Shillong in a confused state. After his detention, Meghalaya police filed a case against him under India’s Foreigners Act for entering the country without valid documents.

Salahuddin Ahmed returned to Bangladesh on August 11, 2024, following the July mass uprising. He subsequently filed a complaint over his abduction with the office of the Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal on June 5, 2025.

The complaint was brought against seven people including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The other six are former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed, former IGP AKM Shahidul Haque, former DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, former army officer Ziaul Ahsan and former head of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit Monirul Islam.

The prosecution had sought a production warrant against him on August 10 in the case. Following that request, the accused was produced before the tribunal on Thursday.
