The prosecution has filed formal charges against 19 people in a crimes against humanity case over the killing of Ashhabul Yamin in Savar during the July Mass Uprising.

The charges were submitted to the registrar of the International Crimes Tribunal on Sunday morning.

The prosecution said 19 people have been accused in the case following a lengthy investigation. On the same day, International Crimes Tribunal 2 framed the charges. A hearing on the charges has been scheduled for August 24.

According to the charges, police and leaders and activists of the Awami League attacked the peaceful Anti Discrimination Student Movement in the Savar Bazar bus stand area on July 18, 2024. It is alleged that Yamin was detained, taken near a police armored personnel carrier, and shot.

The charges further state that after Yamin was critically injured in the shooting, he was left on top of the armored vehicle. The vehicle was then driven around to intimidate the protesting students and the public. At one point, he was thrown onto the roadside.

Locals later rescued him and took him to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar, where doctors declared him dead.

The deceased, Ashhabul Yamin, was a fourth year student in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at MIST.
