The Appellate Division's Chamber Court has upheld the bail of former mayor Selina Hayat Ivy in two cases filed with the Siddhirganj Police Station in Narayanganj. Appellate Division Chamber Judge Justice Md. Rezaul Haq passed the order today, Sunday.
Ivy's lawyer, Advocate Motahar Hossain Saju, said, "Ivy's bail has been upheld in a total of 12 cases. Now, there is no further legal bar to her release from prison."
Previously, on May 10, the Appellate Division upheld the High Court's bail order for Selina Hayat Ivy in 10 separate cases, including murder, filed in connection with the anti-discrimination movement. Prior to that, in November last year, a High Court bench comprising Justice A S M Abdul Mobin and Justice Md. Soghir Hossain had granted Ivy bail in five separate cases. However, following a petition by the state seeking a stay on that bail order, the Appellate Division's Chamber Judge Court had stayed it.
Later, on November 18 last year, Ivy was shown arrested in five more cases. On February 26, a High Court bench consisting of Justice K M Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher granted her bail in those five cases.
Subsequently, the state filed a petition with the Appellate Division seeking the cancellation of the bail. On March 5, the Appellate Division's Chamber Court stayed the High Court's bail order and forwarded the matter to the regular bench for a hearing. Later, the Appellate Division held a hearing on these 10 cases, and following the hearing, her bail was upheld in all 10 cases.
Afterward, she was shown arrested in two more cases. On April 30, the High Court Division granted her bail in those two cases, and the Chamber Court has now upheld that order.
