Retired Major Mozzaffar Hossain, a fugitive accused in the assassination of former President Ziaur Rahman, had been living in India for a long time after the killing, according to reports.
Acting on secret information, detectives from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) arrested him from the Banani DOHS area of the capital shortly after midnight on Wednesday. After completing the necessary legal procedures, he was handed over to the Bangladesh Army to face court-martial proceedings.
After remaining in hiding for 45 years, the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police succeeded in arresting him. According to available information, retired Major Mozzaffar Hossain had been in hiding in neighboring India for a long period. He stayed there from 1997 to 1998. Later, he allegedly crossed the border and moved between different places using an assumed identity.
