Ramisa’s Father Demanded Maximum Punishment While Giving Testimony

Ramisa’s father Abdul Hannan Molla appeared in court today to testify in the case involving the rape and murder of his daughter in Pallabi, Dhaka. Judge Masrur Saleheen of the Dhaka Children’s Violence Prevention Tribunal is scheduled to record his testimony today.
While giving his statement, he expressed his expectation that the accused should receive the maximum punishment for killing his daughter.
Abdul Hannan Molla said in court, “I want fair justice from the court. My innocent child was brutally raped and killed. I want to see swift execution of justice.”
He added emotionally, “No other parents should ever have to lose their child like this. No father or mother should have to stand in the court corridor seeking justice for their child.”
Calling for faster justice, he further said, “I request the government and the opposition to pass a law in parliament so that if someone confesses to a crime, the verdict should be delivered and executed within one month of the confession. This is what me and the people of the country expect.”
According to the case details, on 19 May at around 9:30 am, Ramisa left her home when the accused, Sohel Rana lured her into a room on the third floor of a five-storey building. Around 10:30 am, as her parents were searching for her on the way to school, her mother suspected her presence in the accused’s room and knocked on the door.
Finding no response from inside, Ramisa’s mother called other residents and entered the flat. Inside the bedroom of Sohel and Swapna, they found Ramisa’s headless body and her severed head in a bucket, while Swapna was present at the scene.
On the same day, the victim’s father filed a case at Pallabi Police Station naming two accused. Swapna Akter was arrested first, followed by the main accused Sohel Rana, who was later arrested from Fatullah in Narayanganj.
On 20 May, the main accused Sohel Rana confessed to the crime in a court statement. The same day, the court sent Swapna Akter to jail. After investigation, on 24 May, the investigating officer and Sub-Inspector of Pallabi Police Station, Wahiduzzaman submitted a charge sheet against both accused.
The Metropolitan Magistrate Ashraful Haque accepted the charge sheet and transferred the case for trial. On the same day, the Dhaka Children’s Violence Prevention Tribunal took cognizance of the charge sheet and set 1 June for the charge-framing hearing.
Later on Monday (1 June), the court formally framed charges against the accused, officially beginning the trial in the case.
