Discussions have been held with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) about opening an office in Dhaka, in addition to strengthening investment and economic cooperation in Bangladesh. The matter was discussed at a meeting with Bangladesh's Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Wednesday morning in Tokyo, the capital of Japan. JBIC Governor Amakawa Kazuhiko assured that Bangladesh's proposal would be considered with importance.

At the meeting, held at 9:30 am local time in Japan, the matter of increasing investment and economic cooperation in Bangladesh's energy, information and communication technology, and infrastructure sectors received importance.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman expressed gratitude to JBIC for its cooperation and investment in various sectors and for Bangladesh's economic development. He said his government has taken initiatives to reform and simplify various rules and regulations to ensure a business-friendly environment and attract domestic and foreign investment. The government is committed to formulating investment-friendly policies and improving the business environment.

The Prime Minister further said that JBIC's priority projects are consistent with the development priorities of Bangladesh's current government. Therefore, there is ample opportunity to expand cooperation between the two sides.

At the meeting, a request was made to open a JBIC office in Bangladesh. The JBIC Governor said the proposal would be considered with importance. If an office is established in Dhaka, new opportunities could be created for assessing investment potential in Bangladesh, implementing projects, and coordinating economic cooperation between the two countries.

Those present on Bangladesh's side at the meeting included Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Prime Minister's Advisor on Finance and Planning Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, State Minister for Foreign Affairs-1 Humayun Kabir, Chairman of Invest Bangladesh Ashik Chowdhury, Bangladesh Bank Governor Md. Mostaqur Rahman, Prime Minister's Special Assistant Dr. Shakirul Islam Khan, and Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Ruman, among others.
