Three members of a family suffered burn injuries in an explosion triggered by a gas pipe leakage in Tongi, Gazipur on Wednesday.
Locals rescued the victims and rushed them to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS). The burn victims are Lalchand Mia, 60, his wife Nashima Begum, 50, and their daughter Tanisha, 16.
Tongi Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Senior Station Officer Md Shaheen Alam confirmed the matter and said two units were dispatched to the scene. However, because locals brought the fire under control before their arrival, fire service personnel did not need to perform operations.
NIBPS Emergency Department Resident Surgeon Sultan Mahmud Shikder added that the condition of all three burn victims remains critical. Among them, Lalchand sustained burns over 95 percent of his body, Nashima over 85 percent, and Tanisha over 86 percent of her body.
