Home minister says law and order situation under government control

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed dismissed criticism and claimed that the law-and-order situation remains under the government’s control.

He made the remarks after a meeting on security arrangements for Durga Puja at the Secretariat on Wednesday afternoon.

In response to a journalist’s question, the minister said investigations are underway into attacks on studios in Radda and Manikdi in the capital. He said legal action would be taken against whoever is found responsible.

The home minister also said the clash between hawkers and the city corporation during an eviction drive in Mirpur 10 in the capital was due to a lack of coordination.

At the meeting, Santosh Sharma, general secretary of the Puja Udjapan Parishad, said the organization was satisfied with the increase in holidays and financial allocation.

He also urged the home minister not to arrest any innocent member of the Hindu community before the Puja.
