Speaker Heads to Iran for Khamenei Funeral

National Parliament Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad departed Dhaka to attend the funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

He began his journey to Iran from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka at 7:30 am on Thursday. He is expected to return to the country on 4 July after participating in the funeral services.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, 86, was killed on 28 February in a joint attack by the United States and Israel. The strike occurred while Khamenei was conducting a meeting with the country’s top officials.

Many members of Khamenei’s family and several high-ranking Iranian officials were also killed in the attack.
