Prime Minister Tarique Rahman urged everyone to ensure pollution-free rivers and a clean, livable environment for future generations.

He made this remark at the Secretariat on Sunday morning. The session focused on various issues, including pollution control, waste removal, conservation, management, and navigability of the rivers surrounding Dhaka, as well as the development of circular waterways.

According to the PM’s Press Wing, the meeting reviewed the overall progress of activities concerning pollution control, waste removal, navigability, and natural water flow of the Buriganga, Turag, Dhaleshwari, Balu, and Shitalakshya rivers, as well as their adjacent canals and drains.

The meeting also covered development activities related to the existing circular waterways around Dhaka.

Tarique directed authorities to take effective initiatives to quickly implement the plans adopted so far. He placed special emphasis on carrying out activities by ensuring proper coordination among the concerned ministries, divisions, and agencies.

He said, “We must try to leave behind pollution-free rivers and a livable environment for the next generation as well as ourselves. For this, we should not just wait for government directives; we must also work out of a sense of personal responsibility.”

Local Government Minister Abdul Moyeen Khan, Environment Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo, Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, and Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, along with other senior officials, attended the meeting.
