A delegation led by Toyota Tsusho Corporation Vice Chairman Ichiro Kashitani held a meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

PM's Deputy Press Secretary Shahadat Shadhin confirmed the matter and said the company's representatives informed Tarique during the meeting about their plan to set up a Toyota car manufacturing plant in Bangladesh.

Shahadat added that the delegation expressed their eagerness to contribute toward job creation, industrial expansion, technology transfer, and developing skilled local human resources in Bangladesh through this initiative.

They discussed the expansion of Toyota's operations, investment prospects, and long-term business strategies in Bangladesh.

Welcoming Toyota's interest in investment and expanding business activities, Tarique affirmed the country's commitment to supporting foreign investors.

He said, "The Bangladesh government is working to ensure a stable, competitive, and investment-friendly environment for domestic and foreign investment. The government remains committed to ensuring necessary policy support, infrastructural facilities, and other incentives for foreign investors."

Tarique highlighted potential opportunities within Bangladesh's renewable energy sector and waste-to-energy power generation. The government will extend necessary cooperation and assistance if Toyota Tsusho Corporation seeks to invest in these emerging sectors.

During the discussion, Toyota representatives revealed that they are implementing a comprehensive plan to expand Toyota Bangladesh's distribution network across every divisional level nationwide. This initiative aims to make Toyota's services and operational reach far more accessible across different regions of the country.

Meanwhile, having recently returned from the United States after attending the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Tarique is preparing for an official visit to Japan.

He may travel to Japan at the end of October following an invitation from Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, although officials have not yet finalized the schedule.

Confirming the development to Agamir Somoy on Tuesday afternoon, PM's Press Secretary Saleh Shibly said, "Preparations are underway regarding the matter. However, the issue has not been finalized yet."

Several officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that Tarique may depart Dhaka for Japan on 26 October. During the visit, Tarique is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Takaichi to discuss various issues of mutual interest between the two nations.
