Parliament’s Second Session Begins June 7, Budget in Focus

The second session of the 13th National Parliament is set to begin on June 7. The session will start at 3:00 pm that day. Four days later, on June 11, Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury will present the proposed budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
The information was provided on Thursday in a notice signed by Md. Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat. It said that the President convened the session under Clause (1) of Article 72 of the Constitution.
Parliament Secretariat sources said that, as per tradition, the budget proposal is usually presented on a Thursday. As this is a budget session, the upcoming session is expected to be lengthy. The duration of the session will be decided at a meeting of the Parliamentary Business Advisory Committee before the sitting begins that day.
The first session of the 13th National Parliament concluded on April 30, during which 94 bills were passed.
It is noted that the budget for the 2025–26 fiscal year was last presented by Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed of the interim government.
