Dhaka ranks second in air pollution, areas with highest pollution

Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, ranked second among the world’s cities in terms of air pollution today. With an Air Quality Index score of 175, the air quality in Dhaka was in the unhealthy category. The information was obtained from the index of IQAir, a Switzerland based air quality monitoring organization.
The main pollutant in Dhaka’s air is particulate matter, particularly PM2.5. The concentration of fine particulate matter in Dhaka’s air this morning was nearly 18 times higher than the World Health Organization (WHO) guideline level.
The most polluted air in Dhaka today was recorded in South Pallabi in Mirpur, with an AQI score of 181. It was followed by Baridhara Park Road with 179, Gulshan Lake Park with 179, Becharam Dewri with 178, Agargaon with 175, Saguftha with 175, Baridhara Lakeside with 173, Base Edgewater Outdoor on Madani Avenue with 163 and Grace International School in Gulshan with 158.
Lahore in Pakistan topped the list of the world’s most polluted cities today with a score of 178. Dhaka ranked second with 175 and Jakarta in Indonesia ranked third with 174.
According to IQAir’s standards, an AQI score between 0 and 50 is considered good. A score between 51 and 100 is considered moderate or acceptable. A score between 101 and 150 is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups. A score between 151 and 200 is considered unhealthy. A score between 201 and 300 is considered very unhealthy. A score above 301 is considered hazardous.
