Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that Bangladesh is steadily advancing toward clean energy, a green economy, and a self-reliant energy system.
He made the remarks on Sunday morning after inaugurating a solar power initiative at the National Parliament.
Speaking after the inauguration, he said that the implementation of solar energy in the National Parliament demonstrates that leadership is reflected not only in policies but also in action.
“Bangladesh is severely affected by the impacts of climate change. Therefore, there is no alternative to environmentally friendly energy,” he added.
Tarique Rahman said Bangladesh is striving for self-sufficiency in the energy sector. He noted that making the energy sector sustainable is not only an environmental responsibility but also an essential part of national security.
He further stated that this initiative at the National Parliament will inspire both public and private institutions across the country. He also called on everyone to adopt solar power in building a green energy-based and sustainable national model.
The inauguration ceremony was held at the oath-taking hall of the National Parliament and was opened at the Prime Minister’s request by Speaker retired Major Hafiz Uddin Ahmed.
Among those present were Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud, State Minister Anindya Islam Amit, and Chief Whip of Parliament Nurul Islam Moni.
