Due to emergency maintenance work at Summit's floating LNG terminal in Maheshkhali, gas supply will decrease from November 4 to November 7. Petrobangla said low gas pressure may be experienced at the customer level across the country during this time.
From 8 am on Wednesday to 4 pm on Saturday, that is, for 44 hours, the terminal's regasification (conversion of liquid LNG into gas) operations will remain shut. As a result, daily supply to the national gas grid will drop by 32 crore cubic feet, from 92 crore to 60 crore cubic feet.
Petrobangla's public relations department gave this information to the public in a notice on Sunday.
It said similar maintenance work was also carried out last December.
The country's current daily gas demand is about 380 crore cubic feet. In contrast, about 265 crore cubic feet is being supplied, resulting in a daily deficit of about 115 crore cubic feet. Of this supply, 92 crore cubic feet is coming from two LNG terminals. If Summit's terminal remains shut, the LNG supply will decrease, which may further worsen the gas crisis in the power, industrial, and residential sectors.
Petrobangla has also sincerely apologized for the temporary inconvenience to be experienced by the customers.
