BGB blocks 1,275 in 182 border push-insBorder Guard Bangladesh (BGB) said it foiled infiltration attempts by 1,275 people across 182 push-in incidents in 23 border districts of the country over the past nine and a half months.

BGB Director (Operations) Lt Col Md Mahbub Murshed Rahman made this remark in a press conference at BGB Headquarters on Friday.

Moreover, BGB significantly escalated operations targeting illegal weapons, narcotics, and broader smuggling networks along the border. In various operations conducted so far this year, the force recovered around 78 pistols, seven rifles, one submachine gun (SMG), seven grenades, 12 landmines, and more than 3,200 rounds of live ammunition.

They detained around 1,957 individuals on charges related to drug trafficking, arms smuggling, and other contraband trade, handing them over to police stations for legal action.

According to official BGB data, intelligence and tactical drives between January 1 and October 15 resulted in the seizure of smuggled goods valued around Tk 2,086 crore. The confiscated goods encompass large quantities of narcotics, gold, textiles, and cosmetic products, playing a vital role in protecting national economic interests and safeguarding legitimate commerce.

Identifying narcotics control as a paramount priority, BGB reported seizing nearly 2.6 crore Yaba tablets, around 40 kilograms of Crystal Meth, nearly 12 kilograms of Heroin and Cocaine, nearly 16,000 kilograms of Cannabis, nearly 24,000 bottles of Phensedyl, and nearly 1,00,000 bottles of foreign liquor.
