The Border Security Force (BSF) has returned two police personnel detained at the hands of the force along the Brahmanpara border in Cumilla after approximately 15 hours. They were handed over to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at around 1:45 pm on Friday.
A flag meeting between the two countries was held at around 12:30 pm near Border Pillar No. 2057 along the Narayanpur border in Brahmanpara upazila.
The two returned police personnel are Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Imran Hossain and Constable Rohit Dewan of Brahmanpara Police Station. Senior police and BGB officials were present on behalf of Bangladesh during the handover.
Brahmanpara Police Station Officer in Charge (OC) Md. Faruk Hossain confirmed the matter.
He said a police team conducted an operation to recover drugs near Border Pillar No. 2059 in the Ashabari area of Shashidal Union at around 10:30 pm on Thursday. During the operation, a suspected drug trader tried to flee after noticing the presence of police. While chasing him, Constable Rohit crossed the border and entered India. Local residents later detained him and handed him over to the BSF. When ASI Imran went there to bring Rohit back, he was also detained.
