Police Detain Three After Awami League Rally

Members of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organizations staged a flash rally in Mohakhali, Dhaka, on Thursday. Several cocktails were detonated during the procession, prompting police action that led to the detention of three people, including a woman.
The detainees were identified as Mizanur Rahman Hawlader (40), Shamim Ara Baby (50), and Shamim Hossain (48).
The incident took place at around 9:15 am on Thursday, June 18.
Witnesses said a group of people gathered in front of ICDDRB in Mohakhali at around 9:00 am They were activists of the banned Awami League, Bangladesh Chhatra League, and Jubo League. The group then began a procession toward the bus terminal. Several members of Mohila League joined the rally when it reached the terminal area. During the march, several cocktails were detonated before the participants quickly dispersed.
Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station, confirmed the incident.
“A few Awami League members had brought out a procession. They detonated four to five cocktails. Later, police conducted an operation and detained three people, including a woman,” he said.
