India’s Border Security Force (BSF) attempted to push 12 people, including women and children, into Bangladesh through the Burimari Bamandol border in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat. However, the attempt was thwarted by the intervention of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). The 12 people are now staying inside India near the border.
At around 3:00 am on Saturday, the BSF attempted to push them into Bangladesh through an area near border pillar No. 838/1 at the Burimari Bamandol border. The group consists of two children, two women and eight men.
The BGB said the 12 people are currently staying about 100 yards inside Indian territory near the border. BGB patrols and surveillance have been strengthened along the border to prevent them from entering Bangladesh.
Lieutenant Colonel Md. Shahinul Islam, commander of the 61 BGB Teesta Battalion, confirmed the information. He said the BGB had called for a flag meeting to protest the BSF’s attempt to push the group into Bangladesh. Efforts are underway to resolve the issue through the meeting.
