Three coaches of the Karnaphuli Commuter train derailed on the Dhaka to Chattogram railway line in Laksam, Cumilla. The accident occurred around 12:30 pm on Wednesday, October 21, near the outer signal of Naoti Railway Station in Azgara Union of the upazila. No casualties were immediately reported. However, several hundred passengers on the train narrowly escaped a major accident.

Train services on the route were disrupted following the accident. Passengers faced severe inconvenience as a result.

Mohammad Omar Faruk Bhuiyan, station master (SM) of Laksam Railway Junction, confirmed that three coaches had derailed.

According to sources at Laksam Railway Junction, the privately operated Karnaphuli Commuter train was traveling from Chattogram to Dhaka when a loud noise suddenly occurred as it passed the outer signal of Naoti Railway Station. Three coaches derailed in the incident.

Railway sources said track repair work was underway in the area at the time of the accident. The train had departed from the previous station, Nangalkot Railway Station, at 12:20 pm. As the train was not scheduled to stop at Naoti Station, it passed through the station and reached an area near the outer signal on the down line when the accident occurred.

Station Master Mohammad Omar Faruk Bhuiyan said the accident had caused extensive damage to the railway track. A relief train was sent to the scene to recover the derailed train.

The cause of the accident and the extent of the damage were not immediately known. After the recovery operation, authorities have taken steps to repair the railway track and restore normal train services.
