The deadline for submitting the supplementary investigation report in the case involving the murder of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, the spokesperson for Inquilab Manch, has been deferred once again. The court has set May 17 as the new date for the submission of the report.
The investigation report was scheduled to be submitted today (Tuesday). However, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police, the agency tasked with the investigation, failed to submit the report on time.
In light of this, Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam fixed the new date. With this latest delay, the deadline for submitting the further investigation report has now been extended a total of 13 times.
Sharif Osman Bin Hadi had announced his candidacy as an independent for the Dhaka-8 constituency for the 13th National Parliamentary Election. On December 12 of last year, a day after the announcement of the election schedule, he was shot near the Box Culvert Road area of Paltan in the capital.
Following the incident, Abdullah Al Jaber, the member secretary of Inquilab Manch, filed an attempted murder case at Paltan Police Station on December 14. Sharif Osman Bin Hadi passed away on December 18 while undergoing treatment in Singapore. Subsequently, the case was converted into a murder investigation.
The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police had previously submitted a chargesheet against 17 individuals, including Faisal Karim Masud, on January 6 after investigating the murder. However, the plaintiff filed a "no-confidence" (naraji) petition in court over that chargesheet.
In response to the petition, the court directed the CID to conduct a further investigation into the case.
