Police have detained 1,106 people in anti-teen gang drives across different police stations in Noakhali.

Of them, legal action has been taken against 85 people. The remaining 1,021 were handed over to their families after signing bonds.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Abu Tayeb Md Arif Hossain disclosed the information in a press release on Thursday morning.

According to the release, the drives were conducted under the direction and supervision of Police Superintendent NM Nasiruddin to prevent teen gang activities, stop teenagers from becoming involved in crime and ensure public safety. The drives were conducted across different police stations in the district from September 27 to October 6. The detained and arrested individuals included three who faced action under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 53 who were prosecuted under Section 34, seven who were arrested in regular cases, 13 in previous cases and two based on previous warrants.

In addition, one person was arrested under Section 151, two were sent to court for summary trials and four were sentenced through mobile courts.

According to police station wise figures, the highest number of people were detained in Hatiya with 289, followed by Begumganj with 183, Companiganj with 131, Sudharam Model Police Station with 125, Char Jabbar with 110, Sonaimuri with 92, Kabirhat with 60, Chatkhil with 59 and Senbagh with 57.

Additional Superintendent of Police Abu Tayeb said the drives against teen gang activities will continue. Public awareness activities will also be conducted in coordination with parents, educational institutions, local representatives and people from all sections of society.
