A total of Tk 5,173,500 remained unspent after the completion of the 10 kilometre re excavation of the Molongi Canal in Fulbaria, Mymensingh, aimed at bringing revolutionary changes to the agricultural sector. The surplus amount has been returned to the government treasury, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shahidul Islam Sohag confirmed.

According to the Office of the Upazila Project Implementation Officer, under the Employment Generation Program for the Poorest operated by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, an allocation of Tk 25,752,775 had been made for the re excavation of the 10 kilometre Molongi Canal at Dobordosta in Radhakanai Union. The project was undertaken in line with the prime minister's election pledge to increase agricultural production and eliminate waterlogging.

According to the estimate, Tk 5,173,500 remained unspent after the completion of the work. The re excavation of the canal will bring hundreds of hectares of cropland on both banks under direct irrigation coverage. As a result, water shortages during the dry season will be reduced and waterlogging will be eliminated.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shahidul Islam Sohag said, “As government funds were saved after the completion of the work according to the estimate, Tk 5,173,500 has been returned to the government treasury in accordance with the rules.”
