The movement demanding the resignation of the education minister is gaining momentum. Protesters have demanded that Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon resign by 6 pm. On Tuesday at around 5:30 pm, they left the Science Lab area in scattered groups and headed toward the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
While demonstrating in the Science Lab area, City College examinee Md. Miraj Hossain, speaking on behalf of the students, said in the ultimatum, “The education minister must resign by 6 pm today and apologize to the nation for his inconsistent remarks.”
The students’ other demands include retaking the examinations held on July 13 in what they described as an uncomfortable environment and making alternative arrangements for those who were unable to participate. They also demanded the postponement of Wednesday’s examinations, the publication of a new schedule, and that question paper standards be made more student-friendly.
Earlier, at around 3:45 pm, students took up positions at the Science Lab intersection, bringing traffic on the road to a halt. This caused severe traffic congestion in the surrounding areas. During the sit-in program, the students chanted various slogans demanding the resignation of the education minister. They alleged that despite continuous protests since the morning, no one from the government had yet sat down for talks with them.
