Tight Security in Parliament Ahead of Budget Session

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has strengthened security measures in and around the Parliament Building ahead of the budget session of the 13th National Parliament. The session, set to begin on Sunday, has prompted a ban on all types of meetings, gatherings, processions, rallies, and the carrying of firearms in the Parliament area and nearby zones.
In a public notification signed on Friday by DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, the restrictions were imposed.
The notice states that from 12:00 midnight on Saturday, the carrying of all types of weapons, explosives, and other harmful or polluting substances will be prohibited in the Parliament area. It also bans any kind of assembly, procession, rally, and protest demonstration.
Restricted Areas
The restrictions will apply to the area from Mohakhali Crossing on Mymensingh Road through Old Airport up to Banglamotor Crossing; from the western end of Banglamotor Link Road to the Sarc Fountain area on Sonargaon Road.
They will also cover the area from the eastern side of Panthapath through the Green Road intersection up to Farmgate; from Shyamoli Mor on Mirpur Road to the intersection of Dhanmondi Road-16 (Old-27), from Rokeya Sarani junction through the Old Ninth Division (Uraojahaj) Crossing to Bijoy Sarani Tourist Crossing, and from the eastern end of Indira Road to the western end of Manik Mia Avenue. The restrictions will remain in force within the secured Parliament complex and all roads and lanes within this boundary.
The notification added that the restrictions will come into effect from 12:00 midnight on Saturday and will remain in place until the end of the session.
