Prime Minister’s Adviser Dr. Mahdi Amin said the government has taken swift, visible and effective steps to implement all priority election commitments since the very first day it was formed under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
He said, “The prime minister instructed each ministry to prepare a sector-based 180-day action plan, which has aligned the entire state structure toward common goals and enabled continuous work to implement electoral pledges. This unprecedented effort by the government has already begun to bring positive changes in the living standards of ordinary people.”
He made these remarks in a written statement at a press conference held on Monday afternoon at the ‘Korobi’ hall of the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon, Dhaka.
The Prime Minister’s Press Wing organized the press conference to mark the government’s 100 days in office.
Prime Minister’s Office spokesperson Mahdi Amin said, “Government initiatives across various sectors, including social security, agriculture, education, health, employment, the economy, technology, and infrastructure, have already created new hope among the people. In the first month of assuming office, the government strengthened women-focused social safety programs by launching the ‘Family Card’ initiative. In line with election commitments, it also began providing honorariums for imams, muezzins, khatibs, and other religious leaders. Additionally, to ease public suffering, the government removed the additional monthly charge on prepaid electricity meters, ensuring financial relief for citizens.”
He said, “To strengthen agriculture and the rural economy, the government has taken several major initiatives. It waived agricultural loans of up to Tk 10,000 including interest for small farmers, a decision taken at the very first cabinet meeting. Through the introduction of the ‘Farmer Card,’ agricultural management has been brought under a digital framework. In addition, a nationwide canal excavation program has created the potential for long-term positive changes in agriculture, irrigation, and water management. This revival of the historic canal excavation program of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman will not only contribute to environmental conservation, biodiversity protection, fisheries, agriculture, and livestock, but will also accelerate economic growth and business development through the creation of water bodies and restoration of water flow. It will further boost the rural economy and generate extensive employment opportunities. At the same time, the government has taken an initiative to implement the Padma Barrage project to enhance agriculture, water, and environmental management in the southwestern region.”
Mahdi Amin further said, “We have seen how freedom of expression was suppressed during fascist rule, with the media brought under coercive control. In contrast, every BNP government led by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia ensured press freedom and the free development of the media in the country. Continuing that tradition, the current government is also working to ensure the highest level of freedom for the media and journalists.”
He alleged that “a group is deliberately attempting to create anarchy.” According to him, “The group is engaged in various propaganda activities. The ongoing attempts to create social instability through misleading campaigns, indecent behavior, and offensive actions targeting the Prime Minister, the Home Minister, and other key state figures are harmful to the democratic environment and state order.”
“The government is sincerely working to establish human rights, freedom of expression, and the rule of law, which has repeatedly been reflected in the new standard of openness and tolerance over the past 100 days. On the other hand, politics based on misinformation, hatred, or bitterness under the guise of free speech has become a strategy of this group, which contradicts the aspirations of the mass uprising. Overcoming a long path of enforced disappearances, killings, attacks, and repression, the cabinet of the elected government convened a total of 10 cabinet meetings between February 17 and May 24.”
“Of these meetings, 60 important decisions were taken unanimously. Of them, 37 decisions, around 62 percent, have already been implemented, while the remaining 23 are in the implementation process. Achieving implementation of a significant portion of cabinet decisions within such a short time after forming the government stands as a shining example of its speed, efficiency, and sincerity,” Mahdi Amin added.
