Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin held a meeting with the Deputy Speaker Kayser Kamal as part of the preparations for organizing the presidential election.
Following the meeting held at the Parliament on Tuesday, CEC Nasir said while primary discussions regarding the upcoming presidential election have been completed, no specific date or schedule for the election has been finalized yet.
He added that the meeting held discussions on all necessary legal and procedural issues, including the submission of nomination papers, scrutiny, and the organization of the election.
Regarding candidates for the election, Nasir said if there are multiple competing candidates in the presidential election, voting will be held according to the prescribed rules.
However, if there is ultimately only one valid candidate, no vote will be necessary. There is a clear provision in the law to organize the election on time, regardless of whether a parliamentary session is ongoing or not.
Affirming that the Election Commission (EC) is prepared to hold the presidential vote, Nasir said the date and detailed schedule would be published in a gazette at the appropriate time. EC is also working on local government elections; however, it remains 100 percent prepared to organize the presidential election.
Regarding the progress of the voter list, He added, “A letter has already been sent to the Parliament Secretariat requesting the necessary voter list. As soon as the list is received, further legal proceedings will be completed quickly.”
