Six Bangladeshi nationals were killed in a fire that broke out at a shop in South Africa. One other person suffered burn injuries. The incident occurred Tuesday morning, Bangladesh time, in Queenstown in the Eastern Cape province.

All of the deceased were from Narayanganj. Among them, five were from Boktaboli Union in Sadar Upazila and one was from Alirtek Union.

The matter was confirmed by the shop owner, Rowshan Ali, who is currently in Bangladesh. He is Ward No. 4 member of Kurerpar area under Alirtek Union in Sadar Upazila of the district.

Speaking to Agamir Somoy, Rowshan Ali said, “A fire broke out at my shop in South Africa. At that time, seven people were inside the shop. Six were spot dead. They were all employees of the shop. However, I do not remember their names. I saw it on a video call. I have not yet been able to confirm whether the fire has been brought completely under control. The fire is still burning.”

According to Rowshan Ali, “We are all grieving. We are trying to learn more details.”
