Pay scale gazette expected this week

The gazette notification for the new pay scale is likely to be issued within this week. On Monday, a major portion of the drafted structure was sent to the Legislative Division of the Ministry of Law for vetting, with the remainder expected to be submitted within a day or two. If everything goes according to plan, the official gazette may be published this Thursday. However, officials working on it declined to comment.

Following the Cabinet's approval on August 31, the new pay structure was officially announced. Cabinet Secretary Dr. Nasimul Gani initially indicated that the gazette would be issued within a week. However, as more than two weeks have passed without an official release, concern and disappointment have grown among public servants, who frequently inquire about the timeline.

Officials of the Law Ministry confirmed that a significant portion of the approved draft sent by the Finance Division is currently undergoing vetting, with the rest arriving shortly. If the remaining sections are processed within two days, the Government Order (GO) could be issued by tomorrow (wednesday).

Finance Ministry officials echoed this timeline, explaining that standard procedural preparations have caused minor delays. Drafting is underway to establish precise guidelines on how salaries, allowances, and other benefits will be implemented across various military and civil service cadres. Once vetting concludes, the gazette will be published reflecting the exact parameters approved by the Cabinet.

The Cabinet Secretary previously noted that the revised scale increases public sector salaries by up to 142%. Pay grades 1 through 11 will see increases of up to 100%, while the lowest scale (Grade 20) sees a 142% hike, raising the minimum base pay to Tk20,000.
