The possibility of a reduction in the price of home produced mobile phones is being anticipated. At the same time, call rates may also decrease. Such indications were found in the budget proposed by Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury for the 2026-27 fiscal year, presented on Thursday.
The Minister stated that a proposal has been made to reduce the advance tax rate on the import of 22 raw materials for local mobile phone manufacturing companies from 5% and 2% to 1%. Additionally, a proposal has been made to reduce the source tax deduction rate in the mobile network service sector from 12% to 10%.
The budget also proposed the withdrawal of the 20% source tax applicable on revenue shares, license fees, or charges received by the BTRC (Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission).
