An attack has taken place at King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. Two Indian nationals were killed and eight people were injured. Among the injured are two Bangladeshi expatriates.
Md. Shariful Islam, public relations officer at the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, confirmed the news of the two injured Bangladeshis to Agamir Somoy.
The injured Bangladeshis are Sajal Chandra Das, from Ramchandrapur village under Bangora Bazar Police Station in Cumilla, and Mohammad Abdur Rahim, from Gobigallopur village under Noakhali Sadar Police Station.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare identified the two men and said they were receiving treatment at Saudi German Hospital in Dammam.
According to reports in Saudi media, the other injured individuals include two Indian nationals, two Yemenis, one Saudi national and one Nepali, in addition to the two Bangladeshis.
In a statement on Wednesday, Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said that several of the injured were in critical condition. All the injured had been taken to hospitals.
Earlier on Wednesday, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy said the country’s air defence system had intercepted a drone attempting to strike a Saudi Aramco facility at the Shaybah oil field. However, two people were killed in the incident.
King Fahd International Airport was previously attacked on October 11.
This is the latest in a series of attacks on airports in Saudi Arabia. Such attacks have been taking place as the conflict between Houthi forces and Yemen’s internationally recognised government, backed by Saudi Arabia, intensifies.
