The proposed budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year is set to be announced today. In the Tk 938,000 crore budget, the government is planning tax and duty relief in several public welfare sectors, with the health sector being one of the key focus areas.
In this sector, a proposal has been made to withdraw the 15% VAT and 5% advance income tax on kidney dialysis filters. According to government estimates, this could reduce the cost of each dialysis session by around Tk 800.
This decision is expected to play an important role in making dialysis treatment more affordable and accessible for the large number of kidney disease patients in the country.
In addition, a 10% VAT exemption has been proposed on the supply of heart stents, which could reduce the price of each stent by up to Tk 20,000.
Similarly, removing VAT on intraocular lenses used in eye treatment could lower the price of each lens by about Tk 5,000.
