468,000 Vacant Posts in Government Service

More than 450,000 posts are currently vacant across various ministries and government offices. State Minister for Public Administration Md. Abdul Bari said the government has already adopted short- and long-term special action plans to fill these large-scale vacancies.
He provided the information on Sunday in Parliament in response to a question placed on the table by ruling party member Sarwar Jamal Nizam of Chattogram-13 constituency.
The state minister said the figure emerged from the updated report Statistics of Public Servants 2024, based on manpower data of government employees up to December 31, 2023.
He said a total of 468,220 posts are currently vacant in government offices across the country. Of these, 68,884 vacancies are in first-class positions, covering grades 1 to 9. In second-class positions, covering grades 10 to 12, there are 129,166 vacancies. The highest number of vacancies is in third-class positions, with 146,799 posts in grades 13 to 16.
Md. Abdul Bari further said the government has already prepared six-month, one-year, and five-year recruitment plans to fill these vacancies. As part of the six-month plan, 2,879 vacant posts under the Ministry of Public Administration will be filled. In addition, 4,459 posts will be filled within one year, while 3,110 posts will be filled under the long-term five-year plan.
The plan has been designed with the goal of recruiting around 500,000 government employees with transparency and speed. He also said the Ministry of Public Administration has sent letters to all ministries and divisions seeking updated information on recruitment status and vacant posts.
