13 Projects, Including Financial Sector Reform, Approved

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved 13 projects, including one aimed at reforming the financial sector. The total cost of implementing the projects will be Tk 15,712 crore and 63 lakh. Of this, Tk 10,118 crore and 43 lakh will come from government funds, Tk 5,211 crore and 93 lakh from foreign loans, and Tk 382 crore and 28 lakh from the implementing agencies’ own funds.
The projects were approved at an ECNEC meeting held Tuesday at the NEC conference room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka. The meeting was chaired by ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Among the approved projects are the “Integrated Health System Response to Fight Against TB, AIDS and Malaria,” establishment of Patuakhali Medical College and Hospital, and the “Financial Sector Support Project-2.”
Other projects include the development of existing physical disability training centers in the Chattogram, Khulna and Rajshahi divisions; construction of the Susapur Regulator; and integrated flood and river management improvement in the Small Feni and Bamni river basins.
Another project aims to protect the Shibpur-Dhania and Meduna areas of Bhola Sadar and Daulatkhan upazilas from erosion along the Meghna River.
The approved projects also include widening important upazila and union roads in Rangpur Division; rural infrastructure development in Madaripur, Shariatpur and Rajbari districts; technical and technological development of the SRB; land acquisition for establishing a solar power plant in Sonagazi, Feni; and expansion of the electricity network in the three hill districts.
In addition, a revision to the project for expanding Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport was approved.
