Jubodal Leader Expelled After Assaulting Woman in Public in Noakhali

The local Jubodal leader Md Shafiqul Islam alias Shafiq, who was accused of publicly assaulting a woman in Subarnachar upazila of Noakhali, has been expelled from the party.
The decision was taken swiftly after a video of the incident went viral on social media, drawing widespread criticism.
The expulsion was announced in a statement signed on Saturday evening by Reaz Uddin Saikat, joint convener of the Subarnachar Upazila Jubodal.
The statement said that Md Shafiqul Islam, former general secretary of Ward No. 7 of Mohammodpur Union Jubodal, was expelled from the party along with the cancellation of his primary membership for creating social unrest and engaging in public physical assault against a woman in violation of party discipline. The decision was implemented by Upazila Jubodal convener Belal Hossain Suman and member secretary Nurul Huda.
Locals said that the incident took place around 11:00 am on Saturday in Char Lakshmi village under Mohammodpur union of Subarnachar upazila, following a dispute over fishing nets and fish farming. The victim, Taslima Akhtar Khuki (35), is the wife of Md Khalil Driver from the same village. The accused, Shafiqul Islam, is the son of Samsuddin Molla of the Montarago Bari area in the village.
The video of the assault spread rapidly on Facebook, triggering strong condemnation and outrage across the district.
In response, the Subarnachar unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s Jubodal held an emergency meeting and took organisational action against the accused leader to protect the party’s image and maintain discipline. He was expelled from the party within hours of the incident.
